Hi. I am interested in talking about flag football. I have coached an intramural team here at my college and we went 4-0 in the regular season. In the playoffs, we won the first two games and lost in the semi-finals to a team we beat earlier in the regular season. That team that beat us had only one loss and that was to us. They went on to win the championship and they beat the defending champions of the previous season.

I implemented my own type of offense, which i take some pride in. We didn't score that many points (the points we scored were from first to last game 14,13,12,7,24,20,7), so our defense carried us most of the season with 4 shutouts, including playoffs. I have researched many types of offenses and found some distinguished types. The spread, option, and there is one called the 3-Quarterback system. Can anyone explain to me what the 3-Quarterback system is?

And I want to talk about some more types of offenses and what each person likes. I tried to implement an option offense but there are so many ways to use that, plus my teammates believed that the option wouldn't work so well in flag football, where you pass a lot. So I ended up making a spread-like offense, with my own twists.

Actually, an option offense is difficult to implement in flag football. In flag, you shouldn't really run the football from a traditional running formation. If you have a running back in the back field, u ae wasting a player. He can line up in the slot or motion.

Take a look at some of our flag plays. The spread offense is probably the only system that should be used in flag. You need everyone to go out for a pass, or the qb should just run. If you have a qb that can run, you should take advantage of it.

Your defense sounds great! What type of defense are you using?

We are using a traditional 2-3-2 Defense. If compared to anything in the NFL, It's kind of like the Tampa-2 Defense. Our strength relied on our 2 rushers. They were huge and intimidating. We had 2 really good safeties...If there were any weaknesses, it would be our middle 3 (the 2 corners and our middle linebacker). I did something crazy and scouted the teams before we played them. In one game, we played against a former high school qb who was a good scrambler. We used our 2 rushers to not rush him, but keep him contained so he was forced to throw. Our strategy worked and we shut him out..
Ultimately, the only game we lost, the opposing team found a weakness...they removed the threat of our two rushers and two safties and throw shovel and short passes in the huge holes between our linebacker and corners.

I saw some of the plays, and it seems there is only one formation being used, which is 3 "linemen", with 2 wideouts and a slot receiver, with the QB the only one in the backfield. Are there any other offensive formations that are effective?

Oh yeah.. one of the plays I saw that the slot receiver became the running back in a run play...Is that an advisable play since the RB is in the backfield.

Whenever we saw a team throw in a running back it rarely worked well. Flag football works best when you spread the offense. Any defense with half a brain knows something is up when you use a running back.

We will be adding more plays as time goes by. But having a running back line up in the backfield kinda kills the play.
